Aloha from Hawaii! I am here visiting Roman for a week. It has been great so far. Seeing where he works has been really cool. If you want to check out his blog with some of the pictures of the zip lines and ropes course that he has helped build, it is at http://surf-n-work.blogspot.com/.
It was so nice to see some of you during my time in Austin for the holidays! I will be back for a day on January 6th before I leave again for London, so if anyone wants to say hi or anything before I leave, please let me know! Mahalo (means thanks in hawaiian)!
Aloha!

Exploring the new 'hood, Othello, Greenwich, and Tube troubles
Hi all! Sorry for not writing very often, but things have been quite crazy with work and moving and all. It is a long story and I will tell it eventually, but for now, I will write about current happenings.
I am now living in the in the west end of London in an area called Maida Vail. Since I just moved in during the week, I wanted to try to explore the area a little this weekend. My friend Tracy volunteered to take me on a run this morning and check out all the nearby sites. We ran past a few nearby grocery stores and restaurants, then up to an area called Little Venice that looks really cute. There are tons of little boats on the canal, some are restaurants, some tour boats, and some are actually house boats! I also found out that Abby Road, where the Beatles famous album cover was shot, is less than 5 minutes away! I will go back and take pictures another time, when I am not on a jog!
This weekend is my friend Beth's last in London. She is not part of the Mountbatten program and was instead studying over here for a semester. After I got back from my jog and got ready, we met up at Bourough Market to grab some food (we got a delicious veggie soup and veggie fajita dish, which was nothing like real fajitas!). Then we took the train over to Greenwich, where you can go see the Prime Meridian. Unfortunately, we didn't have time to do that as it gets dark so early over here and it was freezing. We did get to check out the cutest market and we tried to see the famous Cutty Shark, but it is being repaired and won't reopen until early 2009! :(
Then, we saw the best performance of Othello! Beth had waited in line early this morning to get tickets for standing room. Ewan McGregor played Iago and Michael Grandage, from Love Actually, is Othello. My feet really hurt since we only sat down before the show and at intermission, but it was worth it!
On the way home, I had quite the experience on London public transportation. I was on the Bakerloo line and we stopped at one of the stations for a while. All the passengers were wondering what was going on. After about 10 minutes of waiting there, we were told to get off and catch the next train because there had been a stabbing on that train and they had to move it aside so that the police could investigate it! The next train came a few minutes later, we waited on it for another 5 minutes, then they told us to get off again and that the line was now closed. I had no idea what to do since I didn't know where I was or what busses to take, but I followed the crowd anyways to the emergency exit, which ended up being 96 stairs! Right after i got to the top and exited the gates, an announcement came on that the tube was running again! So I headed back down and sure enough, everything was back to normal, as if nothing had happened. No one really seemed fazed, so I wonder if this kind of thing happens often?
Well, it is almost 1AM, so I should really get to bed. I will do little catch up posts of the past few weeks whenever I can. Until then, ciao!
